Volkswagen Service for Summer

Volkswagen Service for Summer

Extreme hot and extreme cold are both taxing on a vehicle. With the former comes the risk of engine overheating and other problems. Learn of the Volkswagen service we recommend this season and ensure your car is ready for commuting and road-tripping in hot weather.

Check the Coolant

The coolant is an essential fluid that the radiator uses to keep the engine and transmission from overheating. Check that the coolant reservoir is at or above the fill line.

Inspect the Tires

Tire blowouts occur most often in the summer because hot air increases pressure inside the tire. Tires that are either underinflated or overinflated are more prone to blowouts. Keep tires within five psi of the recommended pressure.

Check the Wiper Blades

The rubber blades are usually the first part of the wipers to wear out, warranting a complete replacement. The summer heat can cause the rubber to dry, crack, or detach from the metal frame, rendering them less effective.

Inspect and Maintain the Car’s A/C

Without the A/C, the car cabin can feel like an oven. Does it take longer than usual for the A/C to cool the interior? Does the air feel hot? Do you notice a musty smell coming from the vents? If any of these apply, bring your vehicle to the shop for A/C maintenance.

Assemble and Stow an Emergency Kit

You should have an emergency kit in the trunk at all times. You can either buy a pre-filled kit from our parts department or assemble your own. If you have one, check to make sure that nothing in it has expired or suffered damage from temperature changes.
