North America can expect several new Volkswagen models in the coming years. One highly anticipated model is the 2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz. This all-electric minivan was released in the European market in 2022. However, the 2024 model will get a North American release. Learn what details we know so far.
Concept History
First, let’s examine the origins of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. This model was first unveiled as a concept vehicle in 2017. It was a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) with two rows for up to five people. Its innovation and nostalgia for the vintage Volkswagen Microbus ensured that buzz – and demand – was high.
Performance Features
The 2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz will be a roomier three-row minivan that seats up to seven people. Its wheelbase is longer to accommodate a larger 91-kWh battery shared with the upcoming Volkswagen ID.7 sedan.
That battery can power either a rear-drive single motor with an output of 282 horsepower or an upgraded dual-motor setup with 330 horsepower and all-wheel drive. This allows the VW ID. Buzz to go places the VW Microbus would’ve feared to tread.
Design
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz will incorporate many design elements from the iconic Volkswagen Microbus, updating 1950s design for the needs of 21st Century drivers. This includes the enlarged VW badge in the center of the grille and several modern design cues, such as an optional panoramic sunroof with electrochromic tinting.
