EV Maintenance

Everything You Want to Know About Maintaining an EV

In recent years, a growing number of consumers have switched to a greener form of personal transportation. Not long ago, hybrid cars were the only options for eco-conscious drivers. Today, motorists can shrink their carbon footprints even more by getting an all-electric vehicle like the Volkswagen ID.4, although they should be aware that its Volkswagen service needs are subtly different.

Why is EV Maintenance Different?

With EVs being relatively new in the automotive market, many people aren’t sure how the cars need to be cared for. Since EVs don’t have many of the parts you’ll find on a hybrid or traditional vehicle, such as an internal combustion engine, they don’t need maintenance as often. While that’s the case, you’ll still need to schedule service at Strong Volkswagen occasionally.

Monthly

As you would with a vehicle with another type of powertrain, you should check your EV’s tire pressure every month. To do that, you should stop by our Volkswagen parts department to pick up a tire pressure gauge.

Every 7,500 Miles

Rotating your tires regularly will help them wear evenly and last longer. EV owners should have their tires rotated every time they accumulate another 7,500 miles on the odometer. When you bring your EV to Strong Volkswagen for a tire rotation, ask our team to inspect your car and lubricate body components like your door locks if necessary.

Every 15,000 Miles

A clear view of the roadway is a must for you to remain safe during your travels. Change your windshield wiper blades every 15,000 miles or 12 months to keep your view clear. Depending on the conditions in your area, you may have to install new wiper blades every six months or at the start of each season instead.

Every 36,000 Miles

Your car’s cabin air filter prevents dirt, dust, and debris from entering your vehicle. If that filter gets clogged, it can compromise the air quality in the cabin and aggravate any allergies you might have. To prevent those things, replace the filter every 36,000 miles or sooner if necessary. If you need a new cabin air filter, look over our Volkswagen service and parts offers now.
